Current Concepts in Cosmetic
Facial Surgery
The International Academy of Advanced Facial Aesthetics (IAAFA)
had their first inaugural meeting on the 28th of September
2006 entitled ‘Current Concepts in Cosmetic Facial Surgery.’
Attended by 135 people, the event was designed to give practitioners
a chance to network with their peers and meet the advisory
board.
When the International Academy of Advanced Facial Aesthetics
(IAAFA), a non-profit organisation, was launched little under
a year ago, its plan was to bring specialists from the different
sectors of aesthetic medicine together in a bid to unite the
industry. Twelve months on and the association now boasts
more than 140 members from the arenas of cosmetic dentistry,
plastic surgery, aesthetic nursing and dermatology.
A team of eminent doctors and dentists has also been assembled
over the past year to form the academy’s advisory board
including:
Dr Bob Khanna BDS IADFE(NY), Dr
Raj Ragoowansi MB MSc FRCS (Plast), Dr Jonathan
Britto BSc (Hons) MB MD FRCS FRCS (Plast), Dr

After a welcoming speech by the academy’s founder and
President, Dr Bob Khanna, a lecture was given by renowned
plastic surgeon Mr Jonathan Britto who discussed skeletal
and tissue approaches to facial surgery, facial anatomy, what
causes facial ageing and the importance of working as a multi-disciplinary
team.
After the lecture members were invited to enjoy some fine
wine and canapés.
"The evening was a huge success and I was delighted
with not only the large attendance but also the enthusiasm
and passion that was apparent from all delegates,” commented
Dr Khanna. “This further confirms that the need for
such a unique organisation was well overdue. The feedback
has been so overwhelming that the IAAFA office is already
in-undated with bookings for the Annual Conference and IAAFA
Ball on the 16th and 17th March 2007."
